Why real turf

There's a reason it's still the gold standard.

Artificial grass has its place — but for most gardens, a properly-laid real lawn looks better, feels better and costs a lot less to put in.

Looks, smells and feels real

Because it is. There's no synthetic substitute for a healthy, freshly-cut natural lawn underfoot.

Cooler in summer

Natural grass stays cool when the sun's out — unlike artificial turf which can get uncomfortably hot.

Established within weeks

Walk on it lightly within 3 weeks, mow within 4–6. No waiting a season for seed to take.

Better for wildlife

Supports pollinators, earthworms and the wider garden ecosystem in a way artificial never can.

Lower upfront cost

Real turf is significantly cheaper to install than quality artificial grass — especially on larger lawns.

5-year workmanship guarantee

Our preparation and laying work is guaranteed for 5 years. Long-term grass condition depends on aftercare.

Our 8-step turf install

Why most "new lawns" fail in their first season.

Cheap turf installs skip the ground prep, cut corners on topsoil and don't water it in. That's why three months later the joints have shrunk and patches have died. Here's how we actually do it.

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Site survey

We assess existing ground, drainage, levels and access in person — usually 20–30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Clearance

Old lawn, weeds, debris or unsuitable surface lifted and removed. Site stripped back to a workable base.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Levelling & ground prep

Rotovate, level and grade the ground for an even, free-draining base — the bit that makes or breaks a lawn.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Quality screened topsoil

Added where needed to give the roots a deep, nutrient-rich growing layer.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Pre-turf feed

Starter fertiliser raked in to give the turf the best possible first weeks.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Fresh turf laid in staggered joints

Cultivated turf laid the same day it's cut, with tight, even joints — no visible seams.

  7. 7

    Step 7

    Rolled & watered in

Firmed down so the turf knits to the soil, then thoroughly watered to settle it in.

  8. 8

    Step 8 · Handover

    Written aftercare plan

Clear written guidance on watering, the first cut and ongoing maintenance — yours to keep.

Frequently asked

Honest answers, no upsells.

How long until I can use my new lawn?
Light use after about 3 weeks. First cut at 4–6 weeks once the roots have taken hold. Avoid heavy traffic in the first month while it establishes.
What's the best time of year to lay turf?
Spring and autumn are ideal — mild temperatures and natural rainfall help establishment. We can lay year-round in Glasgow, but summer installs need more watering and winter installs need ground that isn't frozen.
Why doesn't your guarantee cover the grass itself?
Because how a lawn establishes depends so heavily on aftercare, weather and how it's used — things outside our control. Our 5-year guarantee covers our preparation and laying workmanship. We hand over a lawn that's been laid properly.
Do I need to remove my old lawn first?
No — we handle clearance as part of the install. Old turf, weeds and unsuitable surface material all come up before we start ground prep.
How much does a new lawn cost?
Typical Glasgow installs land between £18 and £35 per m², depending on access, ground conditions and topsoil requirements. Larger lawns work out cheaper per m².
